Web search and the library

I was reading a post in The Shifted Librarian - "who controls the future of search?", a debate about the role of libraries. Dated 20060624

One speaker mentioned Aquabrowser - very cool! Here's an example:
Queen's Library
I searched for child development. In addition to the books, the browser creates a kind of word association map. Try your own search!

Also mentioned, Endeca. Here's a university site using it:
NSCU Searches everywhere, offers subjects, etc.

Stephen Abram said -
"no one comes to libraries to search - users come to us for learning, community, and services - the top 10 websites provide a good community experience - we should be more worried about MySpace and Facebook not the search engines - 40% of all internet traffic is in MySpace."
