This blog has an RSS feed! So do many other websites - the Globe and Mail, the BBC, Workopolis and many more. Someday soon the VRL will have an RSS feed.
Why use RSS?
RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web.
You keep up to date by subscribing to specific content feeds.
You are updated automatically about changes or new content on websites.
You don't have to remember to check each site. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually.
The news reader retrieves summaries of the latest additions. You can easily see what has changed on a site since it has been flagged by the feed.
Since the feeds go to a newsreader rather than your email, it reduces clutter in your inbox.
As well, it provides you with privacy because you don't need to join email newsletters.
News readers are easy to use! The content just sits in your news reader program. You can read the updates when you are ready. Just scan the headlines or summary to see whether the item warrants clicking through to the full article.
At work, the best option is to use Bloglines to subscribe to RSS feeds. It is free, web-based and portable - you can read your feeds or listen to your podcasts on any web-attached computer.
