You probably have had those questions about life during the 60's or the 20's. Of course, you can find some books about it - if they are on the shelf for that "I need it today" student. Also you can use Toronto Star: Pages of the Past and Globe and Mail: Canada's Heritage from 1844 to find contemporary newspapers.
But we have a new resource - Research eBooks (Gale Virtual Reference Library). In this set of online resources, there are two specifically for that need. American Decades (10 volumes) and American Decades Primary Sources (10 volumes).
Here's how to find it. Go to All In One Search (AIOS). Find Research eBooks (Gale Virtual Reference Library) in the A-Z list or in other subject headings.
Click on History to see all the resources for that subject. Click on American Decades.
Now that you are there, click on eTable of Contents. Use the small drop down menu to choose the right decade (from 1900 to 1990's). Click on Go. Choose your topic below -the + signs open up a topic. There is also a Quick Search (left side) - that allows you to search that particular publication.
