Checking status of websites

Cool site: test whether a site is down. Only validates domain, not path. E.G. tests to see whether torontopubliclibrary.ca is up and running.

Pros and cons:

useful to see whether google.ca or torontopubliclibrary.ca is working

useful to catch typos in domain names - torontpubliclibary.ca

not useful to see whether part of a website works or exists. For example: torontopubliclibrary.ca/geneva. TPL does not have a page with the URL /geneva
That page doesn't exist but the site test site says it works. So if the path is nonsense but the main site is up, downforeveryoneorjustme gets confused.

Last, it can validate the wrong URLs - torontopubliclibrary.com is seen as accurate but it may not be what you were looking for.

Still a good tool for helping patrons who are trying to access a site.
