You may have heard of Doctors Without Borders or Engineers Without Borders. I recently discovered (when they phoned with a query about room bookings at LS) that there's also a group called Librarians Without Borders!
They're relatively new (founded by some library-school students at Western in 2005), and have, as an inaugural project, support of a medical library in Angola.
