Neighbourhood Watch: Baldwin Street

The current (October 2007) issue of Toronto Life has a nice article on Baldwin Village, that block of Baldwin street just between McCaul and Beverly. For those who don't know the area, or haven't visited in a while, "that single block of Baldwin...boasts 23 [or 26] restaurants of different persuasions... plus a health food store, a video shop, a used-record emporium, lockmsith, laundromat, artist's gallery, the Baldwin Village Inn, and a convenience store".

It's a wonderful little neighbourhood for an after-hours bite or drink, a leisurely stroll, or perhaps a spot of shopping.

For obvious reasons, I've never had call to use the Baldwin Inn, but - judging by its website and exterior - it looks modest and cheerful, and might be a possibility for visiting researchers (say, using Osborne or Merril?) looking for somewhere to stay.

I haven't tried all 26 of the neighbourhood restaurants, but there's certainly a goodly selection, including a number with fancier offerings than those of Chinatown. (As a friend pointed out, "ambience" and "Chinatown restaurants" don't usually belong in the same sentence.)
