Some changes and good ones!
You can search right from the first screen, by keyword or by magazine title.
Login required. Just do the search and it will bring you to the login screen before showing you the results. Already logged in to your patron record in the catalogue? It seems to carry this login over to the magazine search. (And, if not, just log in when prompted).
Searching for full-text - just click on Fulltext in the search results screen. It will revise the search eliminating those articles that are not full text.
Search by topic - click on More Search Optionsbelow the keyword search box.
You can select the groups of resources you wish to search using the keyword search box.
Or open a subject folder and use a specific resource.
Or click on Search by database for an A-Z list of resources.
Or use Advanced Search.
Quick Search: the keyword search from the first screen seems to search this Quick Search group of resources.
Results page:
There is no spell checking for search terms - if you spell Pierre Elliott Trudeau's middle name with three l's, you won't get any results!
For efficiency, only some selected databases are searched immediately.
Here is the description that comes up at the top of a search for Pierre Elliot Trudeau:
Results 1-25 of 111 returned for "any contains pierre and elliot and trudeau" (218 total) (Show results by database)
Notice that there are more results available. We will be shown the first group of results. After you have looked at the first set, you get a message offering you more results.
Results 76-91 of 111 returned for "any contains pierre and elliot and trudeau" (218 total) (Show results by database)
1 - 2 - 3 - 4
Next Results for All Resources >
You need to click on the link Next Results for All Resources > to see the rest.
Using the results:
Lots of options from results page - click on subjects and links, e-mail, etc.
E-mail - be sure to open the document you wish to e-mail, i.e., go to the native interface (Gale, Ebscohost, etc.), then e-mail.
My test with Ebscohost shows that you don't get the article otherwise.
This new interface for our resources is so much easier to use and should introduce more users to these valuable resources.
One thing task to do at my branch - change the link on the Internet Explorer bookmarks bar - probably create a link from Ingenieum so no login is needed when helping a patron. A quick demo and search, followed up by a great, on-topic e-mailed article is an amazing marketing tool!
