Our online journals, eBooks and eAudiobooks are in the library catalogue, searchable by title, subject, author, etc. This means that they are searchable through Workflows and iBistro.
And not just listed - you can get to the content from there and read the articles or download the eAudiobook, right from the catalogue.
Try these sample searches in Workflows and iBistro for eJournals, eAudiobooks and online encyclopedias contained in Gale Virtual Library and Credo Reference.
eJournals:
There are specific journals or magazines indexed by our databases (e.g. Management Quarterly articles are available in MasterFile Premier and Academic OneFile).
Workflows:
Search as usual. Click on the Description tab. Click on the link "Click here for full text". The search box for finding magazines will appear first on the screen. Look for the journal title below this.
Try it - search for Management Quarterly
or
Magill Book Reviews
iBistro:
If you use the keyword search option, you can limit to ejournals. Or use the title search.
Click on Details.
Click on Catalogue Record tab (easiest).
Click on the link "Click here for full text".
This will bring you to the journal search page with the link to the specific journal lower down on the screen. Users will first have to login if they have not done so already in that session.
eAudiobooks:
Downloadable audiobooks.
Accessing eAudiobooks is similar. Search for Tuesdays with Morrie.
Click on Details in iBistro and then Catalogue Record or Description in Workflows.
Workflows - click on Access Online.
iBistro - click on Access Online
Both catalogue interfaces give you the option of hearing an excerpt.
Overdrive eAudiobooks are really easy to use with the Overdrive Media Console (on your computer desktop in the branch with the green dot or triangle icon with the white petals or orbital symbols).
You might need to update your Windows Media Player - go to Tools after clicking on the icon and then Windows Media Player Security Update.
Reminder: patrons don't have access to the Overdrive Media Console on library computers and cannot download eAudiobooks in the library.
eBooks:
Two kinds of online eBooks -
Specific encyclopedias within Credo Reference and Gale Virtual Library
and
Overdrive, Safari or Netlibrary eBooks
All searchable from Workflows and iBistro!
Try these searches in Workflows or iBistro:
Credo Reference and Gale Virtual Library:
Search for Encyclopedia of Religion. This eBook (actually a very useful online encyclopedia) is part of the Gale Virtual Library.
Click on Details and then Catalogue Record in iBistro or Description in Workflows.
Other examples:
Search for Dictionary of Media Studies (from Credo)
Search for Business Plans (from Gale Virtual Library resource)
Overdrive, Safari or Netlibrary eBooks:
Lots of travel books online too: search for Chicago guidebooks to find Frommer's online.
Safari has technology and IT books. With Safari, the user just reads online, no downloading.
Example: search for Windows Vista
These resources are also searchable in the usual ways:
Databases: through Ingenieum menu and Article Search (from the TPL homepage link to Find articles...)
eBooks: through the TPL homepage link, Download books, music and video.
New icon:
By the way, there will be a new icon coming to replace the Reference icon currently in use in iBistro. It will make it easier to identify electronic materials at a glance.
