Library e-mailed notices about holds and overdues

Staff at LS wanted to know what the address was for library notices - a patron wanted to make sure that her notices didn't go into the Junk folder in her email account.

This is how it appears in my mail.

From: Toronto Public Library sirsi@ilsapps01p.torontopubliclibrary.ca
Subject: Toronto Public Library Notice
Date: September 26, 2008 10:48:47 AM GMT-04:00
To: joeandfrancesblow@gmail.com

The address field has Toronto Public Library as the sender with a Sirsi address in angle brackets < >
The subject line says Toronto Public Library.

The actual return address is: sirsi@ilsapps01p.torontopubliclibrary.ca
I think this is the one to be marked as safe or saved in the email address.
Note: the receiver cannot reply to this email address. It sends mail only.

How to make sure that an email is seen as friendly by the email program:
The easiest way to do this is put an email address in their email address book or contacts list.
Also, in some email programs, once you open the suspect email, you can select "not spam".

Tips from email providers:

Sympatico FAQ says:
What is a Safe list?
A Safe list contains e-mail addresses or domains that are not considered as sources of junk mail. Therefore, messages from any of the addresses or domains included on your Safe List are never filtered.

Hotmail
If you want messages from specific people, groups, or domains not to be treated as junk mail, create a Safe List.
On the Options page, click Safe List under Mail Handling. Type an address or domain that you always want to receive messages from, and then click Add. Repeat for all addresses you want on your Safe List, and then click OK.

Rogers Yahoo:

I want this email! But it went into Spam. What do I do?

If an email that you want goes into your Spam folder, let us know!

* In your Spam folder, click the message to select it.
* Then click Not Spam, which is above the list of messages.

If you continue seeing these messages in your Spam folder and want them in a non-spam folder, you can set up a filter and send them to any folder you wish. To create, edit, or delete a filter, click Options in the upper-right corner of your Yahoo! Mail page. From the list on the left, choose Filters. Click Create or Edit Filters.

Yahoo Mail users should make sure that bulk mail is kept long enough for review. The user should check preferences.

Gmail:

Legitimate mail is marked as spam

If you find a message wrongly classified as spam, you can unmark the message. Just select the message and click Not Spam along the top of your Spam label. Unmarking a message moves it to your Inbox.

If you find that some senders' messages are consistently being mislabelled as spam, you can prevent this by adding their email addresses to your Contacts list. Google Mail will deliver messages from members of your Contacts list to your Inbox.
If you're sending to Google Mail users and are seeing your messages marked as spam, please review our Bulk Senders guide.
